Character notes
Thorvath is a charismatic figure within his tribe, or Pham as they call it. Known for his striking looks, he has many admirers and a reputation as one of the tribe’s most handsome men. He shares a passionate relationship with Elara, the Harvest Keeper, a wise elder who manages the tribe’s food supplies. Despite their age difference, they share a profound connection. Elara has imparted much of her knowledge about the world to Thorvath, who, in return, brings youthful energy and joy into her life. This bond fuels his determination to protect both her and their people.
Thorvath inherited the Shield of Chain, a finely crafted chainmail shirt, forged using the last remnants of electrical power after the Dalek invasion. This armor was meant to guard against the claws and fangs of the Mugati, ferocious creatures that prowl their land. The chainmail once belonged to Thorvath's father, who tragically died after a fatal fall during a Mugati chase. His father’s passing left Thorvath with an enduring anger and a thirst for vengeance. Over time, this has driven him to become one of the Pham’s greatest warriors, though he favors peace over conflict when possible. His strength and skill in battle have earned him deep respect among his people, and he takes his oath to protect the Pham seriously. Those who seek to discount his strength and bravery due to his good looks, calm manners and piety are soon shown their error.
Thorvath has a special connection with Lentargi, the spirit of all life on Galentor. Growing up, he listened to tales of the Daleks and the struggles his ancestors faced to survive their devastation. Though not a priest, he feels his path as a warrior is a form of devotion, believing that fighting is his way of honoring Lentargi. His connection deepened during a journey south to the Skybound mountain range, where his pale blue eyes, believed to carry the sky’s supernatural touch, witnessed the majestic landscape. This experience strengthened his spiritual bond with Lentargi.
Thorvath’s reputation as a warrior began with a harrowing encounter with the Mugati. Whilst a young man, he narrowly survived an ambush by these massive, clawed beasts, outwitting them by leading them into traps he had prepared. His courage and resourcefulness earned him the admiration of his tribe, marking him as one of their finest defenders.
He has a unique affinity for the Thals, outworlders whom he regards as efficient, capable warriors, a quality he aspires to despite his own tribe’s deeply rooted traditions and superstitions. Thorvath views the Thals' pragmatic approach to life as something that could elevate the followers of Lentargi, offering a new way forward for his people.
Recently, Thorvath was forced to confront a painful moment of courage when he and Elara, surveying fields ahead of the harvest, were attacked by a lone Robo-Man on his way back to a Dalek shuttle. To his horror, he realized it was his cousin, Jarek, turned into a Dalek pawn. In a desperate struggle to save Elara, he was forced to kill Jarek. Although he acted out of necessity, the encounter left Elara wounded, a scar that has never fully healed. Thorvath is haunted by guilt, blaming himself for her injury, though Elara holds only gratitude for his bravery. This inner conflict complicates their relationship, adding an emotional weight to his already heavy sense of duty.
Despite his fierce loyalty and bravery, Thorvath’s passionate nature sometimes clouds his judgment. The loss of his father and cousin, and the ever-present threat of the Daleks, cast a shadow over him as he bears the responsibility of safeguarding his people. His relationship with Elara both strengthens and challenges him, as he balances his devotion to her with his duty to his tribe.
Thorvath’s journey is one of survival, love, and vengeance, navigating relentless threats from the Mugati and the Daleks, and seeking common ground with the Thals. His ultimate dream is to free Galentor from the Dalek menace once and for all—a service he believes would honor Lentargi and finally bring peace to his people.
