Character notes:

This incarnation of the Doctor has a penchant for Venusian martial arts and frilly shirts, reminiscent of the third. Presenting as young and active, with a nervous energy fizzing behind his ever-present sunglasses, he has been cartwheeling and high-kicking his way across the cosmos in his struggle to fight the forces of evil. The Doctor is impulsive and sometimes recklesss, especially when he fears others are in danger.

While often brave, his courage can sometimes quickly snap in the face of clearly superior forces or tactical disadvantages, leading to a fiery bad temper, lashing out, or even running away. This quick anger often masks what is essentially a stoical attitude, with his experience of suffering being a source for his compassion for all life; his natural, if hidden, goodness being the other. Nevertheless, his spontaneity often leads him to desperate peril, much to his regret, which he then seeks to deflect with humour. He has faced great tragedies already in this incarnation, including the catastrophe on Enlandia. This occurred in a deadly confrontation with the Master, during which, despite the Doctor’s valiant efforts, the beautiful world of Enlandia was destroyed, involving the deaths of millions.

He is delighted to have Romana’s company once again on his adventures, even more so following his realisation of her competence in so many areas. On occasion, he is content for her to deal with difficult technical tasks, whilst he steps back to adopt a broader approach to a situation. Romana has only recently begun to realise this. He habituality plays with his sunglasses, taking them off and putting them back on again, and is often something of a fidget who cannot sit or stand still for long.
